25/11/12 w/ DJ HMC

In the late 80s/early 90s Adelaide, the sleepy city of churches, was revered as the 3rd techno capitol of the world. At the coalface of this revolution stood Carmelo Bianchetti – tech/house/rave/acid producer DJ HMC – who issued a stream of seminal cuts on legendary local imprints Juice Records and Dirty House, many of which were licensed in Europe and embraced across the northern hemisphere. Still releasing music to this day with his ‘City Rhythm’ album set for imminent liberation, Carmelo also regularly flexes his disco alter-ego Late Nite Tuff Guy. An indisputable icon of Australian club culture, House Master Cam will be rocking The Mercat this Friday night. To coincide, Richard Kelly at Empty Sleeve kindly digitised a dusty cassette mix from his personal archives taped back in 1991. The Adelaide native muses “you can really feel how he was bending minds with this shit 20 years ago. I used to ride my bike around town on acid listening to these. It really reminded me of how back then these tapes where almost like a secretive currency – swapped, traded and tightly held by those who had them. No internet, no shazzam!” A national treasure! See you on the D…
