23/12/12 w/ Balearic Mike

While we’re preparing to make some big changes around here, we’re going for broke and rounding up our ultimate wishlist. Manchester DJ, compilation selector and Vangelis lookalike Balearic Mike is right up there having taken us on many treasured genre surfs over the years. His tapes capture eclecticism at its best, swinging between nostalgia and appreciation for the modern sound with no fear of the pop hits (though the man knows his rarities having co-compiled the first Originals with Moonboots). Feel good material, ideal for escapism and often very personal. Mike’s been soaking up the Californian lifestyle since getting hitched in San Francisco last October and pieced together this mix for a drive up and down the Pacific Coast Highway with his wife and friends. Hitch a ride with them…

Lovefingers and Psychemagik will be our in-studio guests for the next two respective weeks. Be sure to catch them both at Animal Dancing’s NYD party at The Bridge with Detroit luminary Marcellus Pittman and a cast of well selected locals including Roman Wafers, Andee Frost, Otologic and Tornado Wallace. Tickets running thin, the last of which are available at Moshtix. Don’t be a fool! Exclusive Melbourne show for the three internationals – Lovefingers’ Bamboo Musik parties are now legendary, Psychemagik round off a massive year in the spotlight and Marcellus Pittman has still got it (Otologic’s Tom Moore votes him the best Animals Dancing guest to date)!
